Why Overtime Tracker exists

The more tasks we have in our lives, the harder it becomes to control time and actually get things done.
You’ve probably caught yourself thinking “I just sat down to work, it felt like 2 minutes passed, and suddenly it’s dark outside, it’s already night, and the task list is still the same“.

After spending a long time in management and team leadership, we’ve developed a set of systems and approaches that help not to waste time.

Now, by putting some of those practices together in one place, we created this service so that anyone looking to improve their work process can get a convenient tool for that.

What problems the service covers
 

Task planning

You create tasks for a single day, without diving into full-scale project planning.
Overtime Tracker is meant to help you focus specifically on today, work more consciously, do your work properly, and clearly understand what exactly you’re working on right now.

Time planning

Plan how much time you’re going to spend on each task. When tasks have time limits, you spend less time procrastinating.

Overtime tracking

While working on tasks, you simply mark when a task is finished and get a real-time report showing active hours and overtime.

Improving your workflow

By reviewing reports at the end of the day, you can improve your planning skills and your ability to stay focused on tasks.

How to get started
 

The service doesn’t require installing any apps – just open the page in your browser and start working.
 

  • Add tasks
  • Plan how much time you expect to spend on each task
  • Once tasks are created, just press Start on the task you want to work on. The timer will count down based on the time you planned for that task.
  • When you finish a task, press Finish.
  • When all tasks are done, review the daily report and draw conclusions.

If a task is finished on time, you’ll simply see how much time was spent on it today.

If a task is finished late, the task will show how much overtime you worked, and the report will include overtime details.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can I run multiple tasks at the same time?
    Yes, working time will still be counted regardless of how many tasks you run in parallel.
  • If I need to step away for lunch or leave my workspace, how do I pause all tasks?
    At the bottom of the screen there’s a floating panel with buttons: “Pause all” – pauses all current tasks “resume all” – puts all paused tasks back into work
  • Can I use this service to work with a team?
    At the moment, the service is focused on helping you control your own working time, avoid overtime, and approach work in a planned and conscious way. But in the future, we plan to expand functionality to support team work.
  • What can I see in Real Time Report?
    Reports include information about: – When you started and finished working – Total time spent at your workspace – Time spent actively working (when at least one task was running) – Time spent idle (when there were no active tasks) – Total number of completed tasks – Number of tasks with overtime – Total overtime time for today
  • What is overtime and how should I track it?
    Overtime is the extra time spent beyond what was planned for a task. If you didn’t plan time for a task, overtime won’t be calculated. (we strongly recommend setting at least rough time estimates for each task, so you can see how planned time compares to the actual time spent)
